A tidy house, a tidy mind
... everybody knows this saying - but tidiness requires a lot of time in most cases.
But it is not difficult at all to bring some structure into your media collection - DriveScan Plus is the optimal tool to support you in realising this plan.
The program manages your entire collection - no matter if it contains 10, 100 or even 1,000 data media - and brings the desired structure into your collection by allowing you to sort the media in freely definable categories (as many as you want). For instance, you can save all CDs and DVDs you obtained attached to computer magazine XY in the category "XY-CDs, DVDs 2002-2004".
Scanning a medium lasts between some seconds and a few minutes. So, your collection is digitalized in a short period of time. The duration of the scan process depends on the size of the medium you want to add to the database.
If you have done this work once, you can navigate through the folders and files of any medium as you used to do in the Windows Explorer - with the slight difference that the corresponding medium has not to be inserted in or connected to your computer. Powerful search functions help you to find folders and files without difficulty.

The program interface of DriveScan Plus
We tried to design the user interface as Windows-Explorer-like as possible. The dialogs and program messages are self-explaining and make it easy to get used to the work with the program in a few minutes.
In the upper part of the window you will find a toolbar which allows you to access the most important program functions with one click.
The main part contains three lists. In the left one, all available categories are displayed, in the middle you see all media and folders of the selected category and the right one contains the corresponding files.
In a status bar at the buttom of the window you steadily get some general information on the number of categories, media, folders and files.

Scanning media
To be able to have offline-access on your media, you have to scan them before. During this process, DrivScan Plus reads the folder and file structure (and some further information) from the medium and stores the data in a database on your local hard disk or on a network drive. The duration of this process depends on the number of files on the medium and varies between some seconds and a few minutes. The created files are very small - a large database with 300 media takes only about 30 MB disk space.
You can influence the behaviour of the scan process easily by editing the scan optoins. You can for example scan the contents of zip files and information on MP3 files (ID3-tags) which makes it easier to find those data afterwards.

Audio-CD support
DriveScan Plus offers a fantastic feature which saves you a lot of money since you don't have to type whole track lists into your computer any more: After having scanned an Audio CD, DriveScan Plus accesses an online database that contains tousands of CD tracklists. There the program looks for your CD and loads a tracklist. Afterwards, the tracknames are saved as annotations for your files. Thus, you will find your songs in a second later on!

Searching in the database
A powerful and enormously quick search function helps you to find files and folders.
A search in a database with 1,000,000 files lasts about one minute on a standard computer.
The search functionality is divided in two tabs and can be influenced by lots of options so that only such files will appear in the search results lists for example, which have a specific filesize.
Furthermore you can command DriveScan Plus to search in the entire database or you can select a certain category which speeds up the search process.

Managing several databases
You can of course define the location, where the program stores its database. So, it is possible to store the database on a hard disk but you can also choose an USB tick or a network drive.
You can command the program to show you a dialog at startup, which allows you to select one of up to 10 different databases. Switching databases is also possible while the program is running.
Therefore, you can separate your personal data from business data for example.
